Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Politician Stock Trade Tracker?
ThetaPal's Politician Tracker lets you follow individual members of Congress and get email alerts when they disclose new stock trades. Under the STOCK Act, politicians must disclose stock transactions within 45 days. ThetaPal monitors these filings and notifies you as soon as they appear.
Which politicians can I track?
You can track any member of the US House of Representatives or Senate who has disclosed stock trades. ThetaPal covers over 1,000 ticker symbols across the S&P 500, NASDAQ 100, Russell 1000, major ETFs, and ADRs — capturing the vast majority of congressional trading activity.
How quickly do I get alerted?
ThetaPal syncs congressional filings daily and sends email notifications each morning. You are alerted within hours of a filing appearing in the public record. Note that the STOCK Act allows up to 45 days between a trade and its disclosure, so there is an inherent lag from the actual trade date.
What data is shown for each trade?
Each trade shows the politician's name, party, state, the stock symbol, whether it was a purchase or sale, the dollar range (e.g. $1K-$15K, $100K-$250K), the transaction date, filing date, and reporting lag. Values are shown as ranges per federal disclosure rules, not exact amounts.
Is this legal insider trading data?
Yes. These are legally mandated public disclosures under the STOCK Act of 2012. Members of Congress are required by law to report stock transactions. ThetaPal aggregates this publicly available data to make it easy to follow and understand.
